Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) About Titan Hemp Homes
General
What makes Titan hemp homes fire-resistant?
Hempcrete is naturally fire-resistant due to its high silica content and lack of flammable materials. Our walls are certified to meet high fire safety standards.
Are Titan homes mold and termite resistant?
Yes. Hemp naturally resists mold and pests. Combined with our lime plaster interior and stucco exterior, our homes are inhospitable to termites and mold.
How do your walls compare thermally to traditional homes?
Our hemp walls offer at least twice the insulation value (R-value) of conventional stick-frame construction, providing superior energy efficiency.
Does hempcrete continue to get stronger over time?
Yes. Hempcrete cures over time by absorbing carbon dioxide, eventually fossilizing and becoming even stronger and more durable.
How is the Titan building system different from others?
We combine a lightweight galvanized steel superstructure with dual-sided hemp blocks, pre-engineered pods, and breathable lime plaster finishes for unmatched strength, sustainability, and indoor air quality.
What’s the advantage of your kitchen and bathroom pods?
Our factory-built pods reduce on-site labor and construction time by up to three months. They’re plug-and-play, precision-made, and install quickly.
Are Titan homes approved by building codes?
We are working with engineers and code officials to ensure our materials and methods meet performance standards, even where hemp is not yet fully codified.
Roof and Wall Systems
Can hemp be used in the roof system?
Yes. We can blow in hemp insulation or use pre-formed hemp panels in the roof structure, depending on the design. We balance insulation with roof breathability.
What roofing options do you use?
Our standard flat roof system includes a hemp insulation panel, OSB sheathing, and a Firestone rubberized waterproof membrane with optional reflective paint.
Are your sandwich panels breathable?
They can be. We are experimenting with CNC-drilled ventilation holes in OSB to allow some air exchange while maintaining structural strength.
Will hemp panels hold up to foot traffic on the roof?
Yes, our panels are engineered to handle typical loads, including maintenance personnel walking on the roof, when installed on trusses spaced 16″ on center.
